News of a suicide is the topic of discussion at a housewarming party for Chris Landrum, the newest resident of Folly Beach, a small barrier island off of historic Charleston, South Carolina. While certainly unfortunate, a stranger's death has no significance for the recently retired Kentuckian-until a friend convinces him the fatality could not have been suicide.Chris and his new buddy Charles set out to solve a crime that the police and the coroner say didn't occur. The victim's multimillion-dollar estate provides them with a wealth of likely suspects. The talents of a reformed cat burglar, the deception of a boorish but sometimes lovable real estate agent, and the listening skills of a charming waitress combine to discover a number of undeniable clues.The harmless quest to oust the murderer takes an abrupt turn when someone decides Chris and his tag-along friend should join the victim in the hereafter.
