Description:

Blood on the Moon is a novel about two women, one white, the other black, who are married to the same man, Prince Achille Murat. Achille, who is Napoleon Bonaparte's nephew, is the proprietor of Lipona Plantation on the banks of the Saint Johns River in the virgin wilderness of antebellum East Florida. Jenny, Achille's legal wife, although an orphan, traces her lineage to George Washington; she burns with the desire to claim what she regards as her rightful due among Achille's relatives at the court of Versailles. The fierce pride of Ophelia, the "other" wife, will not allow her to settle for less. In the end, both women set upon their own journeys of discovery which, ultimately, threatens to destroy them all.
