Description:
As part of "The postwar world" series, this provides an historical account of the rapid relinquishment of the colonial control which European governments held over most of Africa during the first half of the 20th century. While the scope of the book is intercontinental, attention is paid to the particular problems of different regions of Africa, and some attempt is made to illustrate the historical individuality of each country. Also, while "decolonization" is narrowly defined as a process culminating in independence, the author recognises and examines the continuing influence of many former colonial powers.
