Ready for Business

This is a low level American Engish business English text and is designed as a lead-in to "Funtioning in Business" (Knowles and Bailey). It centres on a visit of an American executive to a Japanese company, but the situations and language will be of relevance to business people of all nationalites. The text could be used either in the classroom or for self-study. It includes a separate answer key and audio cassette tape. The cassette tape features the main dialogues and further listening activities. Whilst the majority of speakers use standard American English, the cassette also features Japanese, British, Australian, and other accents. The book aims to equip the student for dealing with standard business situations, with an emphasis on listening and speaking. Each unit begins with listening activities and moves on to structured language practice; this is followed by role play, and finally by a free discussion activity. Throughout the book students are invited to bring their own business experience and knowledge to the situation being worked on. Aimed at basic level students, this book is an introduction to the "Functioning in Business" series. It lends itself to activities and role plays where the students can bring their personal experiences to the situation, and practice using their English.
