Description:

Kimball's Landing is a story about truth and fiction, narrated by a young writer who finds himself stranded in 1975 in a small , failing northern town named Port Noble. He spends time in a local tavern where old-time residents hold forth with humorous stories about the town's past. The narrator becomes romantically involved with a graduate Sociology student who listens to the same stories as part of her research into the town. The town's storytellers, however, are uncharacteristically reluctant to talk about a mysterious place known as Kimball's Landing, and warn against pursuing the story. In spite of the warnings, the two young people search for the place and its history, following different paths. As the narrator uncovers the nativist history of the place, he also exposes the reality of his own relationship with the student and the town he has adopted as his home.
