All That We Hide

A tuberculosis diagnosis landed Marilyn VanHoosen in Trudeau Sanitorium in upstate New York, far away from her vaccinated friends, who were enjoying their senior year of high school on milkshake-sweet dates and attending formal dances. Confined to a sterile bed in the infirmary or freezing during outdoor "cold cure" treatments in the middle of winter, she had plenty of time to wonder if the lack of medical care was a purposeful way to remove her from the home where her father had disappeared yet again.
