Panther in the Sky
Description:
Panther in the Sky is a well-written and beautifully illustrated historical fiction picture book. Boundless, curious, and excited by oral tradition, young Ebony longed to know as much as she could about her great uncle who was a civil rights activist. Uncle was a mighty warrior. He was a Black Panther. Ebony’s mother ensured that his legacy lived on as she repeatedly shared the oral narrative, just as the ancestors kept their forefathers alive through story telling. Ebony vowed to give back to her community just like her uncle did. She understood the African principle of Ubuntu - I am because you are! Panther in the Sky is designed to enlighten children and adults (big kids) on the incredible endeavors that the Black Panther Party afforded to the educational arena. The Breakfast for Children Program was a great success across the country. This free breakfast program was one of the precursors of the federal lunch program that provides free or reduced breakfast in at-risk areas.
