Description:

This is the first book published on the 406th Fighter Group in WWII. There have been brief summaries in several 9th AF and P-47 histories, but nothing nearly as detailed as this. It is a story that has been neglected. World War II tactical aviation as you’ve never seen it before. 104 pages, 60 in color, 168 never-before-published photos, 118 color profiles. And if you thought you knew anything about the progression of markings on 406th FG P-47s during that year of combat in WWII, you were probably wrong, because most previously-published summaries are wrong. For example, after the Hasegawa P-47 kits came out in 1996 showing incorrect markings for 42-2680 L3-O “Angie” it was common to see in many publications the statement that “All 406th FG P-47s had their horizontal and vertical tails painted gloss black.” That simply never happened. Likewise, nearly every published 406th FG summary states that 406th FG P-47s initially appeared in standard ETO ID markings, then eventually got squadron-color nose bands, then full-painted squadron-color cowlings, and finally the definitive nose blaze late in the war. That too is wrong. And nearly every published drawing and decal sheet has the shape of those nose blazes wrong. Get the true story. If you are a serious modeler or WWII aviation historian, you must have this book!
