Testimony: The Memoirs of Dmitri Shostakovich as related to and edited by Solomon Volkov

With the composer's consent, the manuscript was smuggled out of Soviet Russia - but Shostakovich, fearing reprisals, stipulated that the book should not appear until after his death.
