The York Psalter is one of the notable triumphs of English Romanesque illumination. In addition to the visual fascination of its deeply personal rendering of the gospel narrative, the York Psalter has particular iconographical interest as providing one of the earliest pictorial sequences of the death and assumption of the Virgin.
