Testing the Ice

Jackie Robinson was one of baseballs greatest players. Back in his day, baseball, like most of America, was segregated. Major League Baseball was for whites only. Black and brown-skinned players had to play in the Negro Leagues. They were denied entry into the major leagues just because of the color of their skin. Finding food worth eating or a restaurant to serve them was a daily problem. Branch Rickey asked him to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers? That first spring was tough. Some fans cheered him and others shouted insults but he was the man that broke the color barrier in baseball.
