Plant physiology

Our science has grown at a phenomenal rate since May of 1969, when we put the finishing touches on the first edition of this bool. Mush has been learned, some important problems have been solved or brought closer to a solution, and interest has diversified into several exciting new areas. Our subject has become increasingly broad and challenging. This situation has required us to write a new book rather than just revise the first edition. Although we have used many figures from the first edition, most have been redrawn. Probably only 10 to 20 percent of the written material was used in preparing this edition, and that has been extensively revised.
