Black matriarchy: myth or reality? (A Wadsworth series: explorations in the Black experience)

Traditionally, studies of the structure and functions of the black family in A,merica has tried to show the influences of social conditions and African roots. This book explores the point of view of a black matriarchy, that is, female dominated. This view can be seen in the strong influence held in many African-American communities by the mothers and grandmothers in families where father or male influences can be more transient or less family-oriented.
