Saints

Containing stories from folk and religious traditions, this is a study of saints from ancient times to the modern-day icons. It explores saints and graces from many religions, from the Christian saint to Islam and the "supersaint", from the Hindu concept of sainthood to the Buddhist tradition, and from the Confucian saint to the question for Jewish faith of whether saints exist at all. The book also chronicles some examples of saintly intervention throughout the religious spectrum, and the traditions and history of pilgrimages and pilgrimage sites. There is also a study of miracles in different religions - in Christianity a saint has the power to perform miracles, but in the Buddhist tradition an ordinary individual cannot begin the path to sainthood without first giving proof of miracles.
