Ever since the movies found their voice, among the gabbiest and most engaging heroes in the films have been those breezy, irreverent, hard-drinking newspaper reporters who always got the story---and the girl. To spice the stories and heighten the conflicts, these interpid movie reporters have had to cope with conniving editors and/or publishers played by Spencer Tracy, Orson Welles, Edward G Robinson, Pat O'brien, Walter Matthau, and many others.
