Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major, Op. 6: and Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 22, in Full Score
Description:
This outstanding new edition brings together two of the most popular and most performed violin concertos of the Romantic repertoire in one convenient, moderately priced volume.
Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1 set a new standard of virtuosity and influenced the composition of violin music ever after. The composer prided himself on his reputation for unmatched technical skill and wrote many works designed to show himself to best advantage. He guarded his professional secrets closely, permitting the publication of only a few of his works. Although it was composed sometime from 1811 to 1815, the First Concerto was not published until after Paganini's death in 1840.
Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 2 is a concert-hall favorite the world over. The composer, one of the most celebrated violinists of the nineteenth century, wrote music mainly for his own enjoyment and not for public performance. This concerto for solo violin received recognition after Wieniawski's death. A work with a moderate tempo, divided into three movements, it continues to be enjoyed by both performers and audiences.
