Sonatas and Other Works for Piano

Rachmaninoff was not only one of the twentieth century's greatest piano virtuosos, he was one of its most acclaimed composers. His music for the piano, rich in soaring melody and technical flourish, has long been a favorite of keyboard artists and their audiences. This collection contains a number of his finest piano compositions reprinted from authoritative editions. The Russian master's two great sonatas - the Sonata in D Minor, Op. 28, and the Sonata in B-flat Minor. Op. 38 (as revised by the composer in 1931), both complex and technically challenging works - have been included. Also here are the splendid Variations on a Theme of Chopin, Op. 22, based on that composer's famous C-minor Prelude, as well as the six charming pieces of Moments Musicaux, Op. 16 - melodious, filled with longing, dazzling in their intricately detailed passages, and like the other three works in this collection, infinitely rewarding to pianists who master them.
