Catalyst Design: Progress and Perspectives

The complex field of catalysis has, to date, defied attempts toward a systematic approach to designing new catalysts. However, the growing body of knowledge is now sufficient to begin this process, which will lead the way towards effective design techniques and continuing sophistication in the field. This is the first work which addresses this need. It examines various aspects of catalyst design from various points of view which reflect the particular interests and expertise of the authors. Among the topics covered in this work are: the effects of surface morphology and surface composition on catalyst performance, including potential applications and suggestions for improvements; challenges involved in commercial application of catalyst design via anchoring organometallic complexes to solid surfaces; the utilization of support metal systems in catalyst design; mathematical modeling of catalytic systems and their use in designing porous catalysts; and much more.
