"Electronics: A Practical Introduction" is designed to provide entry-level students with the skills and theory they need to embark on a wide variety of career and interest paths. Section I emphasizes the development of the physical and mental skills that will enable students to be successful in later studies or early hobby pursuits. These same skills will also prove useful in many related fields. Students are encouraged to select, construct and test classroom-proven student projects once they have mastered basic safety and hand tool knowledge. These projects then serve as the student's focal point in the book, functioning both as a motivational tool and as an important learning medium. To their chosen projects, students can first relate the equipment and components they use in assembly and testing. Later, as they progress through Section 2, they can relate the theory they learn to their own projects. All the projects include schematics, construction notes, parts lists, suggested printed circuit board and foil pattern layouts, and voltage and resistance charts for testing purposes. These features allow for great flexibility in adjusting courses to emphasize design, construction, or testing aspects according to time allotments and student abilities and needs. Please note that all projects can be broken down for reuse of components in the building of other projects.
