The excellent reception given to the first edition of this book and the subsequent updating of the quality scene since its first publication have resulted in a need for the preparation of a revised and expanded edition. Since the first edition, the international series of standards on quality systems has been ratified and published as definitive documents. Many national standards bodies, particularly in Europe, have adopted these as new revisions to their existing quality standards.
