The Best of Sail

A collection of 36 paintings of famous clipper ships along with accompanying historical notes, excerpted from the famous three-volume set, Sail: The Romance of the Clipper Ships, first published in 1927. The three-volume collected set was created from the original front cover illustrations created for the British magazine, Blue Peter, by the legendary maritime painter, Jack Spurling. The text includes the history of each ship, along with lore and legend, and is itself a treasure for those who value stories of the sea. This single volume is a selection of the thirty-six most significant ships featured in the original three-volume set. Each featured ship is portrayed in a full-color full-page illustration along with the original text provided by Basil Lubbock.
