Fred Field, The

As seventh grade ends, Oren is haunted by the murder of his best friend, Fred, in the evil house that once stood next door. Now it's an empty lot filling up with trash. Oren has a brilliant idea -- to turn the lot into the Fred Lightfoot Memorial Ball Field. Soon the Bell family and their friends are flying high into summer. The Fred Field hosts ball games and band practice. Oren's little sister, Brenda, leads the way in working on a neighborhood art project. Latonya, his overachieving twin, plans Mama and Jack's wedding. But Oren won't be distracted from his most important goal -- to find out who killed Fred, and bring the murderer to justice.
