Alone in the Ice World
Description:
Fourteen-year-old Allison Atwood is on her way to visit her mother in Alaska when her plane crashes near the Arctic Circle. The pilot is killed, leaving Allison alone in a wilderness of ice and snow. After hours of huddling among the plane's cargo, she is rescued by an Inupiat trapper. He takes her to his village, which seems light-years from her home in southern California. Here she is the "ice worn," the outsider. Over time, however, the people of the village change her life, and Allison changes their lives as well. Set in the late 1970s, MaryAnn Easley's novel is a compelling portrait of a teenager who begins to understand the meaning of hardship and survival.
