Electrical Wiring Domestic
Description:
A guide to the practical aspects of domestic electric wiring directed at electrical contractors, installation engineers, wiremen and students. It aims to provide essential information on modern methods and materials in a simple, clear and concise manner. The main changes in this edition are those necessary to bring the work into line with the 15th edition of the "Regulations for Electrical Installations" issued by the Institution of Electrical Engineers. The scope of the book has also been enlarged and new illustrations have been specially prepared to show examples of current practice. The early chapters cover the basic features of domestic installations, power and current ratings, cable and accessory sizes, circuit protection, the fitting of switches, fuses and circuit-breakers etc. Later chapters cover lighting, power, socket-outlets and the connection of appliances. Fluorescent lighting and "off-peak" electric heating systems are also covered together with the protective multiple earthing (PME) system and inspection and tests required on completed installations such as the earth-fault loop-impedance and ring-circuit continuity tests. The author also discusses the principal wiring systems available for domestic use including steel, aluminium and PVC conduit, PVC and tough rubber sheathed cable, the mineral-insulated copper-sheathed system and prefabricated systems.
