[From the Preface] In your study of German you have now reached a point at which you have mastered most of the aspects of grammar necessary to understand, speak, read, and write German as it is spoken and written in everyday situations. "Blickpunkt Deutschland" is designed to further increase your ability to read German. Understanding, speaking, and writing skills are not neglected; but the major emphasis is to increase your ability to successfully read mature, original selections representing a variety of genres. Selections from both East and West German writers, from newspapers, diaries, letters, lectures, interviews, radio plays, poems, songs, and short stories are included. Indeed, the heart of "Blickpunkt Deutschland" is the great variety of readings within each of the ten chapters, each devoted to a specific theme.
