A.D. 70 represents a pivotal date in Jewish history. In that year the Roman army of emperor Titus captured Jerusalem and sacked the Temple, destroying the independent state of Judea and driving Jews out of their ancestral land. These events brought an end to Jewish statehood that would last until the founding of Israel in 1948.
