The Social Bond
Description:
When first published in 1970, this book was unique among introductory books in its emphasis upon the concepts that make sociology a discipline. THE SOCIAL BOND quickly won a significant following among students and faculty members. In this second, revised edition, the conceptual framework is maintained, as is the emphasis upon the nature of the social bond. Some of the improvements made are reorganization in the interest of sharpness and cogency; compression of several sections, notably those on the nature of sociology as a science and the problem of social change; expansion of the chapter on policy and action; updating of contents wherever required; much greater use of subheadings within chapters; and substantial reduction in the length of the book. Robert Alexander Nisbet (1913 - 1996) was an American sociologist, professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Vice-Chancellor at the University of California, Riverside and Albert Schweitzer Professor at Columbia University.
