Description:

" The purpose of the audio companion is to provide readings and performances that cannot be duplicated readily in the classroom. The resulting selections are of four kinds: poems read by the authors themselves, from Tennyson to Heaney and Walcott: passages of Old English and Middle English poems, read by experts in the pronunciation of those languages; poems in Scots dialect and poems written in sprung rhythm; and performances of poems set to music. The texts of all the recordings are included in the two-volume Norton Anthology: most are available in the Major Authors volume as well. The contents of the audio companion were chosen after an intensive search of available recordings and audio collections, including the immense storehouse of recorded material in the Library of Congress. To these have been added a large number of performances especially commissioned from readers and musicians in the united States and abroad. The resulting recordings provide a wide-ranging sampling of poems in which the printed texts are fleshed out in spoken word and song." The contents of each CD is listed and there is even a length of time given and a track number.
