The Offenders

Gallatin, Missouri, wasn't much of a town. With its muddy streets and raw wood buildings, it was a place you passed through on your way somewhere else. Colonel Jefferson Karnes couldn't afford that luxury. He had to stay in Gallatin until he found out what was going on between the Gentiles there and the Mormons just over the line in Caldwell County. Those were his orders, and for an old Mexican War vet like Karnes, that would be enough to make him march through hell and back with a pitch-pine torch.
