One Perfect Shot

Bill Gastner knows from hard experience that nothing is ever straightforward in Posadas County, New Mexico. But even this canny undersheriff is mystified when county employee Larry Zipoli turns up shot to death in his grader along a lonely highway. The bullet that killed him is unmarked. It seems fired from an impossible distance with even more impossible accuracy. Witnesses to the crime are few and can't agree on what they heard. And the mild-mannered victim's life looks as smooth and uneventful as the wide-open roads he fixed.
