When Regan McIntyre is called to interview for an opening at the high powered Seattle law firm of Courtney & Wainwright, Nick Wainwright is taken aback, because of her name, he'd assumed she was male. He told her in no uncertain terms that he wouldn't work with a woman. So that evening when he showed up at her door to tell her she'd gotten the job, she assumed he'd been ordered by older James Courtney to hire her so that she wouldn't sue, not that she would have. At work Nick seemed to treat her like a glorified secretary. Then he started piling on the work and Regan was convinced he was trying to wear her down, force her to quit, but she persevered, writing valuable memos, until finally he trusts her enough to involve her in an important case. However, just when she thought she was a valuable asset to him, the firm transfers her, takes her off the case. She is devastated. Then Nick asks her to dinner.
