Death in Jerusalem: A Donald McCarry Mystery

Smart-mouthed, low-key stockbroker Donald McCarry made his debut in 1991 in Brokered Death, in which he investigated a financial scam that took him to Paris before returning him to the bulls and bears of Wall Street. His third case begins with a relatively innocent trip to Israel before deteriorating into another typical McCarry mess.Slightly more scrupulous than his peers, McCarry is nevertheless perfectly willing to fake interest in a risky international venture if it means a few days away from work and his lovely, shallow fiancee Stacy Kimball, who is nagging him to find a more prestigious career. The rigors of New York pale in comparison to what he finds in Jerusalem, though.His friend Harry Brickman, high on the financial success he foresees for Agritech Consultants Limited, is kidnapped at gunpoint while the two are driving through the desert countryside. At loose ends while Harry's disappearance is investigated, McCarry continues his desultory research of Agritech, spending time with its delectable administrator Esther Sennesh. Seeing Agritech's operations and going over their books, he realizes that the business will never see the massive returns Harry is forecasting. Harry is either lying or being lied to, and when he reappears, only to be killed soon after, McCarry's instincts are screaming. Was Harry cheating his own firm and friends or was he an innocent bystander? Is the Israeli government involved, or maybe the Americans? The trail leads McCarry back to Wall Street and some less than comfortable situations before he gets the answers he wants.
