The Holy Spirit: A Comprehensive Study of the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

This volume on the third Person of the Trinity is the outgrowth of lectures on Pneumatology in the Systematic Theology curriculum of Dallas (Texas) Theological Seminary. These lectures previously published in a limited quantity (now exhausted) under the title "The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit" for the author's classroom use aroused considerable interest and prompted this new revised publication. In this present form it is an extensive treatment of the entire doctrine of the Holy Spirit, complete with comprehensive table of contents, Scriptural and topical index. This volume should prove to be an exceptionally valued reference work and textbook for theological students and pastors as well as for laymen desiring to get a complete presentation of the One who indwells all believers. Notable is the fact that some 1500 Scripture citations are used. In preparing this Third Edition, it seemed advisable to add an appendix on "The Contemporary Doctrine of the Holy Spirit." Though the purpose of the volume as a whole is to discuss the theology of the Holy Spirit as held by those who believe in Biblical infallibility, it has become important for students of the doctrine to know something of the interpretations current in liberal, neo-orthodox, and crisis theology. The doctrine of the Holy Spirit in contemporary theology is the key to interpretation of modern thought, and for this reason is an essential factor in theological discussion.
