Changing Our Lives: Lesbian Passions, Politics, Priorities
Description:
The focus of this work is on the radical changes that have occurred in many women's lives since the heady and historic days of the 1970s' women's movement, when thousands of Western feminists chose lesbianism as a positive statement of their resistance to patriarchal society. Many have remained enthusiastic, committed, woman-identified women but what, if anything, has replaced their feminist activism? And what are their current beliefs, motivations and passions? Through a series of detailed interviews with prominent figures from the women's movement - Jackie Forster, Sheila Jeffreys, Linda Bellos, Jill Posener, Gill Storey amongst others, the author discovers that many women's lives have taken on a different political direction such as involvement in AIDS politics, housing, race-issues, Feminists Against Censorship or disability politics.
