Education and the Teacher Unions (Issues in Education)

The chief focus of this book is on the extent to which British teachers organized collectively in unions are able to influence educational policy development, and the methods by which they do so. In line with the aim of the series to concentrate on current issues and emerging trends, the book explores the future potential of teacher unions' influence.The author concentrates on the history and development of one of these unions, the National Union of Teachers, since the middle of the last century, and then looks generally at the main strands in the literature on teacher unions, considering both the nature and content of union influence and the means by which this influence is exercised.
