People Of The River: Native Arts Of The Oregon Territory

Published to accompany an exhibition held at the Portland Art Museum in 2005, this oversized (10.25x12.25") catalogue presents color plates of 204 works in the exhibition, grouped by media--sculpture, basketry, and beadwork. Mercer (curator, Native American Art, Portland Art Museum) was responsible for organizing this impressive exhibition, which assembled the works from public and private collections throughout the US. An initial historical introduction, and short essays introducing each section constitute the main text, though many of the works are accompanied by catalogue entries.
