Description:
These first-person accounts were related by native ethnographers Frank and Henry Allen to European-American anthropologist Elmendorf between 1934 and 1940. The Allens discussed events and activities of their own choosing which Elmendorf has grouped into seven categories (e.g., classes and class functions, spirit power) for convenience. He also offers background information, a brief chronology, a history-myth continuum and a note on phonetic symbols (much of the vocabulary is in the Twana language). Nine b/w photos. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
