Levels of Socio-Economic Development Theory

This text offers an interdisciplinary review of contemporary theories of development, including modernization, political development, economic/GNP, and dependency/world-economy models. The material is organized by "level of analysis"--whether the theory focuses upon individual characteristics, organizational arrangements, societal institutions, or international forces. As the first text on development to employ this level of analysis framework, the volume enables students to see clearly the important role of both the theory chosen and its particular level of analysis in shaping one's description, explanation, and interpretation of the development process.
