Description:
Excerpt from Issue Roll of Thomas De Brantingham, Bishop of Exeter, Lord High Treasurer of England: Containing Payments Made Out of His Majesty's Revenue in the 44th Year of King Edward 1370
Mr. Roberts, in his Report to the Commissioners on Records in 1800, speaking of these rolls of receipts, says, I apprehend the Pell of receipt, now called the Introitus, is coeval with the original establishment of a clerk of the pells, (which traditionally is said to have commenced in Alfred's time.) Certainly records of the receipts of the Exchequer were commenced in very early ages, and have been continued to the present day. I am of opinion they will be found in the Tower of the Pells in a complete series during the last century, and possibly of time more remote.
