Robert Service, a well-known scholar of Russian history, has now written the second of a projected three-volume intellectual and political biography of Lenin, founder of the Soviet state. "Worlds in Collision" is as thorough and tightly written as the first volume, picking up the thread of Lenin's life as he struggled for party control in 1910 and closing with his ascent to power in 1918. The tale of his political relationships and maneuvers toward power is interwoven with the development of his thought and the history of his writings.
