This series examines aspects of the two World Wars in detail. It looks at their origins, the battle fronts, life at home and in the war zones, the technical developments, the peace and the aftermath. Containing many contemporary photographs, this volume investigates the origins - covering the Treaty of Versailles, poverty and depression in Germany in the 1920s and 30s, the rise of Hitler to power and the Blitzkreig invasions of Poland, Belgium, France and later, Russia. It also looks at the role of Japan in bringing the USA into the war, the gradual turning of the tide to D-Day in June 1944 and the final Allied victory a year later.
