Description:

This excellent, practical guide for engineers clearly explains the switched reluctance motor (SRM) and its control. The SRM--a relative newcomer to the family of electric motors--is unusual both for having salient teeth on rotor and stator, and for its complete dependence on power electronic controls. The SRM, which does not conform to classical AC and DC electric motor design, has extreme localized saturation and requires an unfamiliar power-electronic converter to make it work. Although the geometry is simple and the result is remarkably versatile, the attainment of good design and satisfactory performance is practically impossible by traditional design methods. This clearly-written book for industrial designers and instructors presents the first detailed account of the properties and capabilities of the switched reluctance motor.
