A revised edition of this standard textbook on public international law, taking account of major developments since 1979. The emphasis is on the modern practice of states and international organizations, and the book aims to combine clear exposition with rigorous analysis. The author's previous publications include "International Law and the Use of Force by States", "Basic Documents on International Law", "Basic Documents on Human Rights" and "A System of the Law of Nations: State Responsibility". The 1976 edition of this work received the Certificate of Merit of the American Society of International Law.
