Tradition and Originality in Roman Poetry

This book sets out to reveal the essential nature of Roman poetry and the ways in which individual, highly conscious of inheriting an identifiable tradition, managed to achieve an originality of their own. Williams focuses particularly on the Augustan poets, with all quotations given in Latin and English.
