Day Lewis, Wilfred Owen, Dylan Thomas, John Agard, James Berry, Linton Kwezi Johnson, Grace Nichols and Benjamin Zephaniah; from the USA - Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, Langston Hughes, and Alice Walker; from South Africa - Dennis Brutus, Barry Feinberg, Mafika Gwala, Gcina Mhlope, Mike Nichol and Wally Serote; and from elsewhere in Africa - Ama Ata Aidoo, Ben Okri and Niyi Osundare. Biographical notes place each poet in context.
