Religious Reason: The Rational and Moral Basis of Religious Belief

Since the early nineteenth century there has been a common tendency within the objective study of religion to set religion and reason at odds with one another. The purpose of this book is to call this separation of religion and reason into question. The fundamental claim is that religion is a fully rational activity and a necessary activity for the fulfillment of rationality. The author maintains that reason has four employments: theoretical, prudential, moral, and religious, and that these are related to one another in a progressive sequence.
