Author Samuel Sandmel, who died in 1979, was Helen A. Regenstein Professor of Religion at the University of Chicago Divinity School and a former president of the Society of Biblical Literature. In addition to authoring several monographs, Sandmel was the General Editor of 'The New English Bible: Oxford Study Edition.'
