Pursued and offended by cads and used by boorish relatives, Evelina finds redemption close at hand in the person of Lord Orville, who leads the heroine from chaste maidenhood to virtuous marriage. Rogers authored a biography of Fanny Burney and is the editor of The Meridian Anthology of Early Women Writers.
