The first year students composition rhetoric is appropriate for courses that introduce the elements of writing through writing models, or use readings as supplements to discussion of the writing process. Prose Models, Tenth Edition covers the major elements of the paragraph and essays (topic sentence, thesis, unity, transitions, order of ideas, etc.) and methods of development (definition, comparison and contrast, example, etc.).
