The authors created this textbook to augment the language-oriented program by encouraging an awareness of the nuances of culture.\nThe first section of each chapter, which includes a reading with accompanying comprehension questions and vocabulary exercises, focuses on areas of culture in the United States to help foreign and immigrant students better understand their experiences in the host society.\nThe second section, which includes conversational intercultural activities, is designed to help students become aware of aspects of culture that are beyond language.
